Do SSDs Improve Gaming Performance (FPS)?

SSD often gives us a number of advantages when it comes to better performance. This makes a lot of people think twice before opting for a hard drive instead of an SSD.

SSDs help in reading and writing large files faster. It also helps in decreasing the overall boot time on OS, applications, and programs.

If you have a laptop, then it is recommended that you get an SSD. This is because:

  • It is safer than getting a hard drive, as it does not have any movable component. It will not break if you drop it or bump it while using a laptop.
  • It speeds up your laptop’s speed and improves performance.
  • It is expensive yet a solid investment.
  • The performance of a cheap SSD is even better than the most expensive Hard Disk Drive.

How SSD affects FPS?

SSD will not have any effect over FPS. Thus, you are not going to get any performance advantage. Even if you download any game over SSD, then it will not give you any more FPS.

FPS or Frame Per Second can be determined by factors such as RAM size, power of GPU, Draw Calls, CPU speed, or the size of VRAM.

FPS can be improved if you upgrade your Graphics Processor Unit (GPU). It will be a much better option if you get any graphic card for improving the FPS.

SSD will, however, help you in getting a better gaming experience.

SSD and gaming experience

Even though SSD will not have any effect over the FPS of your laptop nevertheless, it will surely have a better effect on your gaming experience.

All the games which are installed over SSD will boot faster than games that are installed on the hard drive. The boot time may differ in the case of different games. SSD can reduce the booting time up to half of the general time taken for booting.

If you have ever faced the hitching problem, then SSD will surely solve your problem. Hitching happens when the game does not load its assets or functions at the time of the player’s need.

SSD also does not have any issue in reading data because of its electronic nature. Therefore, it can easily access all the data without lagging. SSD will improve the overall performance of gaming.

From time taken to go from game menu to actual game to game speed, both will also be reduced. Other facilities, such as increasing the speed of transferring files, opening applications, and games, will also improve. Larger files will take less time to move and open.

With better loading speed to saving gaming time, SSD will provide you with everything. One thing to keep in mind is to check if your SSD has enough space or not. If you do, then just install the game on SSD. Otherwise, you have to prioritize whatever game you want to play.

Endnotes

If you are a game savvy person but with a moderate PC buying budget, then choosing SSD would be a wise option. It may not help you in improving the FPS, but it will surely improve your gaming experience.
